The Hex Kite is a hexagonal box kite inspired by honeycomb. It was a group collaboration with Brianna McGregor, Amelie Houle, Tia Wiseman, Piers Waldie, Lauryn Gabriele, Oliver Heimbach and Diren Naidoo. It is a sewn ripstop nylon kite with wooden dowels and 3D printed connectors that compose its structure.

Some quick ideation sketches to brainstorm hexagonal box kite forms.
We created a small scale prototype out of toothpicks to get an idea of the kites structure.
I created a CAD model of the kite design in Solidworks alongside another group member.
We 3D printed connectors and cut 3/16" wooden dowels to size to assemble the structure.
I took part in creating, cutting, and pinning the sewing pattern, as well as the sewing on a sewing machine.
We created an initial prototype with cotton, to ensure that our sewing pattern was the right size, and to determine what tolerances we needed for the final pattern.
Using screen printing ink, the rip stop nylon inner pieces of the kite were dyed yellow. A hexagonal design was also screen printed to the exterior of the kite as added decoration.
